Gaza City, 28 February 2018 – the NET-MED Youth Day was celebrated today in Gaza City. The event gathered policy and decision makers, such as the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Sabri Saidam, Head of the European Union Office in Gaza, Mr. Ayman Fteiha, universities and academic institutions, youth organizatons, university students from different universities in Gaza, UN agencies and national and international organizations in order to establish a platform of dialogue and policy debate among youth and key actors working in the field in Palestine.


Three roundtable discussions presented several key and unique studies carried out and produced by NET-MED Youth, highlighting youth issues concerning policy and decision-making, media representation, employment, and civic participation. Since 2014, NET-MED Youth helps young women and men develop their competencies, claim and exercise their rights, and meaningfully engage as active citizens, particularly in decision making relating to youth policies. In addition, NET-MED Youth aims to engage young people developing their attitudes and behaviors towards human rights.


The Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sabri Saidam emphasized the importance of youth and media and highlighted that the Ministry is working to enhance relations with other ministries, increase the competencies of graduated people, build the capacity of youth and enhance their representation in the media.


UNESCO Representative to Palestine, Dr. Lodovico Folin Calabi, recalled how NET-MED Youth has empowered young Palestinian women and men to be full participants in building their own communities and to be agents of positive transformations in Palestine. He further highlighted the achievements made by the NET-MED Youth project with regards to mainstreaming youth issues in Palestine, especially on a decision making level.
